Karen explains: "I always believed Harris Tweed to be itchy and scratchy
and associated with country wear, but the development of more softer colourful
fabrics are ideal for today's fashion conscious market. I knew this was a fabric I wanted to be associated with, even the
hand-woven process of manufacture really appealed to me as I consider myself to be a hands-on designer.
After Graduating with a Bsc.in Clothing Design
& Manufacture. I took up a temporary
Tutor Post in Heriot-Watt University School of Textiles, this and my previous
work experience with Kelley's and Scottish Television in Glasgow, finally
convinced me to pluck up the courage and go it alone under my own label - 'Clothing by Design'. Here you will find exclusive high quality wearable fashion in Harris Tweed and my latest collections of
Soft Scottish Tweeds in herringbones & self colours and Wedding Collections.
My Inspiration for wedding
design dates back to my childhood and my own dreams for the big day.
This came true when for the final part of my degree studies I chose to design
and make my own wedding dress. I was asked by one of Scotland's leading
Wedding Magazines 'I do' to show the whole process from design to
finish (winter Edt'n.1998.) I love the elegance of wedding dresses, so to
me it seemed a good opportunity to do something a bit different. I also
felt if I was going to put a lot of time and effort into making a
dress, it may as well be something I wanted to wear. |
